Good Faith Estimate
You are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” that outlines the expected costs of your medical care.
According to the law, healthcare providers are required to supply patients who are uninsured or not using insurance with an estimate of their bills for medical services and items.
You have the right to obtain a Good Faith Estimate detailing the total anticipated cost of any non-emergency services or items. This estimate should encompass all associated costs, including medical tests, prescription medications, equipment, and hospital charges.
Ensure that your healthcare provider provides you with a written Good Faith Estimate at least one business day prior to your scheduled service or item. Additionally, you can request a Good Faith Estimate from your healthcare provider or any other provider before making arrangements for a service or item.
If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by at least $400, you have the right to contest the charge.
Be sure to keep a copy or a screenshot of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
