Good Faith Estimate

You are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” that outlines the expected costs of your medical care.

  • According to the law, healthcare providers are required to supply patients who are uninsured or not using insurance with an estimate of their bills for medical services and items.

  • You have the right to obtain a Good Faith Estimate detailing the total anticipated cost of any non-emergency services or items. This estimate should encompass all associated costs, including medical tests, prescription medications, equipment, and hospital charges.

  • Ensure that your healthcare provider provides you with a written Good Faith Estimate at least one business day prior to your scheduled service or item. Additionally, you can request a Good Faith Estimate from your healthcare provider or any other provider before making arrangements for a service or item.

  • If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by at least $400, you have the right to contest the charge.

  • Be sure to keep a copy or a screenshot of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
